The post processing framework (PPF) is part of the SAP web application server and offers a uniform interface to generate various actions. Actions can be planned, started and monitored using tools.

The actions, such as printing delivery notes, faxing order confirmations or triggering approval procedures are generated when certain predetermined conditions occur. Processing can then take place directly, at a later time, automatically or through user interaction.

Processing types

The PPF provides processing types that can be used to perform various actions:

• Print, fax and send e-mails with SmartForms or Adobe PDF
• Start a workflow
• Start a business add-in
• Communication with other systems (e.g. SAP ERP, GTS)

The processing types can also be replaced by your own processing types or adapted to special requirements.

The PPF also provides tools with which the actions can be managed in the form of an action overview with status display, determination and processing logs.

Components

Action profile

An action profile brackets several actions that are often used together.

Action definition

The action definition describes the content of an action, its processing time, unauthorized processing times, finding technique, action consolidation and processing types, etc.

Action finding

The action determination is used to check whether the PPF action is scheduled or not.

Merge actions

If there are several PPF actions, the action merging can be used to control how to deal with them.

Action list

Actions that are planned for an application document by action determination are added to an action list.

Worklist

The work list contains PPF actions that can be scheduled manually.

Processing list

Type of processing that is carried out at runtime, such as method call or external communication etc.
