SAP Fiori Offline Application

Especially in logistics, it can happen that a wireless internet connection is not always available. For example in corners or shielded positions within a warehouse. The use of offline-capable applications that load data into a buffer memory or only editing data and update it in SAP at a later point in time with an existing internet connection is particularly useful here. With a SAP Fiori offline application, a (warehouse-) employee can carry out all activities with a consistently increased performance without a constant online connection.

Fiori/UI5 concept

The concept of the Fiori application is not different to other applications. The MVC concept is used. The model has the used data to which the controller takes hold. The data is then displayed visually in the views. Furthermore, the files index.html (in which the executing application is started), components.js, manifest.json and the folder structure i18n (especially for multilingualism) are used by default.

 

IndexedDB

With the help of IndexedDB, data from the SAP Fiori app can be saved in a separate database within the browser. Meantime the data is located in the browser.

 

The data in the IndexedDB are thus offline available and are also available when there is no internet connection. In the example above, the data TANUM and VLPLA are now stored offline.

Once the processing of this data has been completed, it can either be uploaded back to the SAP system using an upload button (with an existing internet connection) or automatically when a new internet connection is available.

 

oDataService

The oDataService reads data from the SAP system. For this purpose special GET and SET methods are developed, whereby the data of the Fiori platform are made available.

 

SAP Gateway Service Builder

In the SAP Gateway Service Builder, the methods are assigned to the respective instances. SAP Gateway is included as standard in SAP NetWeaver version 7.5 and forms the basis for Fiori applications in the SAP ERP system.
