Project Description

Material Flow Control in SAP

Connect automated systems and machines directly to SAP with SERKEM and control them in real time

The SERKEM solution in detail

With the advent of the internet and globalization, the requirements and conditions in warehouse management have changed fundamentally. Warehouses are becoming increasingly complex and the use of automated storage and conveyor technology is of significant importance in logistics. Due to the high investments, the performance of these technical systems must be fully exploited. Above all, the connection to SAP was associated with problems in the past.

An example of the material flow in the warehouse

SERKEM offers 2 approaches for material flow control in SAP:

  • SAP EWM with module for material flow control MFS
  • SAP TRM as an extension of SAP LES

With the Material Flow System (MFS) and EWM, automated systems as well as storage and conveyor technology can be connected directly to SAP and controlled in real time. With this fully integrated material flow system, SAP EWM offers significant added value compared to SAP LES: the system landscape is standardized as well as unified and the material flow can be controlled via all automatic components in the warehouse.

At a Glance

  • Automatic identification of HUs using scanner on the conveyor system
  • Automatic removal of HUs that cannot be stored
  • Fully automatic storage of HUs over any number of intermediate steps
  • Data monitoring in graphical form
  • Traffic light functions for status monitoring
  • Destination calculation of a container
  • Automatic search for a new storage location if the goods cannot be transported to the designated location in the warehouse
  • Creation of reports about the location of a load carrier is possible with every booking
  • Tracking of container movements can be switched on and off
  • Visibility of the current location of HUs and the related warehouse tasks
  • Improved creation of shipping HUs based on information from product master data and delivery orders, such as quantities, volume and weight
  • Creation of plan-shipping HUs (PVHUs) as templates for the creation of shipping HUs for picking or packaging
  • Manual or automatic creation of PVHUs
  • Target: reduce the amount of handling units (HUs)
  • Automated handling of highly complex return processes
  • Including quality management
  • Management of returns stock items at storage bin level
  • Improved efficiency and transparency of the returns process
  • Inventory and process transparency
  • Alert monitor: call up logs of exceptions
  • Access to system logs
  • Evaluation of telegrams and response times
  • System response to error codes
  • Reaction to certain incidents
  • Alert monitoring
  • Notification of problems via mail or SMS
  • Taking disruptions into account
  • Consideration of capacity limits for reporting points, funding segments and vehicles
  • Reduction of idle travel
  • Track the current system status
  • Determination of the telegram traffic to individual HUs or warehouse tasks
  • Blocking reporting points, segments or resources
  • Acknowledge warehouse tasks manually
  • Customizing settings to adapt customer-specific requirements

  • Integrated solution creates advantages in maintenance, support and error analysis
  • High level of automation
  • Consistent user guidance
  • Independence from the system supplier
  • Direct communication with the control software (PLC level) of the conveyor technology
  • Separate material flow computers are unnecessary
  • Use of the existing server landscape
  • Control of storage systems in real time

  • Integration of automated warehouses directly from SAP
  • Direct communication between the EWM-MFS and the PLC: PLC is integrated via standard customizing
  • Scalability through numerous configuration options
  • Simultaneous control of several PLC systems
  • Multi user capability
  • Control of pallet storage, systems for container technology, AKLs, etc. due to fast response times
  • Double game
  • Goods receipt with collective HUs if the assignment of goods to packing table is unclear
